When U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Nickolas Mohr graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in September 2025, he left with more than a master’s degree in computer science — he carried with him a new way of thinking about complex problems.

Washington D.C.  – The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its Plasma Physics Division, marking six decades of scientific discovery that has advanced the understanding of plasma, and supported technologies critical to national defense, space science, and advanced materials.

U.S. Naval Research Laboratory scientists successfully completed its first live-site demonstration of an autonomous underwater vehicle-based sonar system designed to locate unexploded ordnance, or UXO, at a Navy munitions response site near Vieques, Puerto Rico.

U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) scientists successfully demonstrated a dual-use laser system capable of wirelessly transmitting power over long distances and rapidly transitioning to perform defensive missions, advancing expeditionary energy and defense capabilities for future warfighters.
