Stingray Cleared for Takeoff: MQ-25A Achieves First Flight, Milestone C Approval

The Navy’s path toward unmanned carrier aviation took a major step forward this spring. After a successful first flight April 25, Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao announced May 19 that the MQ-25A Stingray received Milestone C approval, clearing the way to move into Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP).

The Navy’s MQ-25A Stingray is pre-flighted to take its first flight April 25 at Boeing’s facility at MidAmerica Airport in Mascoutah, Ill. The MQ-25 is the Navy’s first operational carrier-based unmanned aircraft.
